- 1Verse 1
سَأَلَ سَآئِلُۢ بِعَذَابٖ وَاقِعٖ
Saala sailun biAAathabin waqiAAinA supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen
- 2Verse 2
لِّلۡكَٰفِرِينَ لَيۡسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٞ
Lilkafireena laysa lahu dafiAAunTo the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer
- 3Verse 3
مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِي ٱلۡمَعَارِجِ
Mina Allahi thee almaAAariji[It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent
- 4Verse 4
تَعۡرُجُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيۡهِ فِي يَوۡمٖ كَانَ مِقۡدَارُهُۥ خَمۡسِينَ أَلۡفَ سَنَةٖ
TaAAruju almalaikatu waalrroohu ilayhi fee yawmin kana miqdaruhu khamseena alfa sanatinThe angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years
- 5Verse 5
فَٱصۡبِرۡ صَبۡرٗا جَمِيلًا
Faisbir sabran jameelanSo be patient with gracious patience
- 6Verse 6
إِنَّهُمۡ يَرَوۡنَهُۥ بَعِيدٗا
Innahum yarawnahu baAAeedanIndeed, they see it [as] distant
- 7Verse 7
وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبٗا
Wanarahu qareebanBut We see it [as] near
- 8Verse 8
يَوۡمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلۡمُهۡلِ
Yawma takoonu alssamao kaalmuhliOn the Day the sky will be like murky oil
- 9Verse 9
وَتَكُونُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَٱلۡعِهۡنِ
Watakoonu aljibalu kaalAAihniAnd the mountains will be like wool
- 10Verse 10
وَلَا يَسۡـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمٗا
Wala yasalu hameemun hameemanAnd no friend will ask [anything of] a friend
- 11Verse 11
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمۡۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُ لَوۡ يَفۡتَدِي مِنۡ عَذَابِ يَوۡمِئِذِۭ بِبَنِيهِ
Yubassaroonahum yawaddu almujrimu law yaftadee min AAathabi yawmiithin bibaneehiThey will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children
- 12Verse 12
وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ
Wasahibatihi waakheehiAnd his wife and his brother
- 13Verse 13
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِي تُـٔۡوِيهِ
Wafaseelatihi allatee tuweehiAnd his nearest kindred who shelter him
- 14Verse 14
وَمَن فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعٗا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ
Waman fee alardi jameeAAan thumma yunjeehiAnd whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him
- 15Verse 15
كَلَّآۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ
Kalla innaha lathaNo! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell]
- 16Verse 16
نَزَّاعَةٗ لِّلشَّوَىٰ
NazzaAAatan lilshshawaA remover of exteriors
- 17Verse 17
تَدۡعُواْ مَنۡ أَدۡبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
TadAAoo man adbara watawallaIt invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]
- 18Verse 18
وَجَمَعَ فَأَوۡعَىٰٓ
WajamaAAa faawAAaAnd collected [wealth] and hoarded
- 19Verse 19
۞إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا
Inna alinsana khuliqa halooAAanIndeed, mankind was created anxious
- 20Verse 20
إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعٗا
Itha massahu alshsharru jazooAAanWhen evil touches him, impatient
- 21Verse 21
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلۡخَيۡرُ مَنُوعًا
Waitha massahu alkhayru manooAAanAnd when good touches him, withholding [of it]
- 22Verse 22
إِلَّا ٱلۡمُصَلِّينَ
Illa almusalleenaExcept the observers of prayer
- 23Verse 23
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمۡ دَآئِمُونَ
Allatheena hum AAala salatihim daimoonaThose who are constant in their prayer
- 24Verse 24
وَٱلَّذِينَ فِيٓ أَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ حَقّٞ مَّعۡلُومٞ
Waallatheena fee amwalihim haqqun maAAloomunAnd those within whose wealth is a known right
- 25Verse 25
لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلۡمَحۡرُومِ
Lilssaili waalmahroomiFor the petitioner and the deprived
- 26Verse 26
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ
Waallatheena yusaddiqoona biyawmi alddeeniAnd those who believe in the Day of Recompense
- 27Verse 27
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنۡ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشۡفِقُونَ
Waallatheena hum min AAathabi rabbihim mushfiqoonaAnd those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord
- 28Verse 28
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمۡ غَيۡرُ مَأۡمُونٖ
Inna AAathaba rabbihim ghayru mamooninIndeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe
- 29Verse 29
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ لِفُرُوجِهِمۡ حَٰفِظُونَ
Waallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoonaAnd those who guard their private parts
- 30Verse 30
إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزۡوَٰجِهِمۡ أَوۡ مَا مَلَكَتۡ أَيۡمَٰنُهُمۡ فَإِنَّهُمۡ غَيۡرُ مَلُومِينَ
Illa AAala azwajihim aw ma malakat aymanuhum fainnahum ghayru maloomeenaExcept from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed
- 31Verse 31
فَمَنِ ٱبۡتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡعَادُونَ
Famani ibtagha waraa thalika faolaika humu alAAadoonaBut whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors
- 32Verse 32
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ لِأَمَٰنَٰتِهِمۡ وَعَهۡدِهِمۡ رَٰعُونَ
Waallatheena hum liamanatihim waAAahdihim raAAoonaAnd those who are to their trusts and promises attentive
- 33Verse 33
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَٰدَٰتِهِمۡ قَآئِمُونَ
Waallatheena hum bishahadatihim qaimoonaAnd those who are in their testimonies upright
- 34Verse 34
وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمۡ يُحَافِظُونَ
Waallatheena hum AAala salatihim yuhafithoonaAnd those who [carefully] maintain their prayer
- 35Verse 35
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ مُّكۡرَمُونَ
Olaika fee jannatin mukramoonaThey will be in gardens, honored
- 36Verse 36
فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ قِبَلَكَ مُهۡطِعِينَ
Famali allatheena kafaroo qibalaka muhtiAAeenaSo what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muhammad]
- 37Verse 37
عَنِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ
AAani alyameeni waAAani alshshimali AAizeena[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups
- 38Verse 38
أَيَطۡمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ أَن يُدۡخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٖ
AyatmaAAu kullu imriin minhum an yudkhala jannata naAAeeminDoes every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure
- 39Verse 39
كَلَّآۖ إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَٰهُم مِّمَّا يَعۡلَمُونَ
Kalla inna khalaqnahum mimma yaAAlamoonaNo! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know
- 40Verse 40
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلۡمَشَٰرِقِ وَٱلۡمَغَٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَٰدِرُونَ
Fala oqsimu birabbi almashariqi waalmagharibi inna laqadiroonaSo I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are able
- 41Verse 41
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيۡرٗا مِّنۡهُمۡ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوقِينَ
AAala an nubaddila khayran minhum wama nahnu bimasbooqeenaTo replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone
- 42Verse 42
فَذَرۡهُمۡ يَخُوضُواْ وَيَلۡعَبُواْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَٰقُواْ يَوۡمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ
Fatharhum yakhoodoo wayalAAaboo hatta yulaqoo yawmahumu allathee yooAAadoonaSo leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised
- 43Verse 43
يَوۡمَ يَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ سِرَاعٗا كَأَنَّهُمۡ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٖ يُوفِضُونَ
Yawma yakhrujoona mina alajdathi siraAAan kaannahum ila nusubin yoofidoonaThe Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening
- 44Verse 44
خَٰشِعَةً أَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡ تَرۡهَقُهُمۡ ذِلَّةٞۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمُ ٱلَّذِي كَانُواْ يُوعَدُونَ
KhashiAAatan absaruhum tarhaquhum thillatun thalika alyawmu allathee kanoo yooAAadoonaTheir eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised
