About Surah Al-Muddaththir

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُدَّثِّرُ
Ya ayyuha almuddaththiruO you who covers himself [with a garment]
- 2Verse 2
قُمۡ فَأَنذِرۡ
Qum faanthirArise and warn
- 3Verse 3
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرۡ
Warabbaka fakabbirAnd your Lord glorify
- 4Verse 4
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرۡ
Wathiyabaka fatahhirAnd your clothing purify
- 5Verse 5
وَٱلرُّجۡزَ فَٱهۡجُرۡ
Waalrrujza faohjurAnd uncleanliness avoid
- 6Verse 6
وَلَا تَمۡنُن تَسۡتَكۡثِرُ
Wala tamnun tastakthiruAnd do not confer favor to acquire more
- 7Verse 7
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصۡبِرۡ
Walirabbika faisbirBut for your Lord be patient
- 8Verse 8
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي ٱلنَّاقُورِ
Faitha nuqira fee alnnaqooriAnd when the trumpet is blown
- 9Verse 9
فَذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَوۡمٌ عَسِيرٌ
Fathalika yawmaithin yawmun AAaseerunThat Day will be a difficult day
- 10Verse 10
عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ غَيۡرُ يَسِيرٖ
AAala alkafireena ghayru yaseerinFor the disbelievers - not easy
- 11Verse 11
ذَرۡنِي وَمَنۡ خَلَقۡتُ وَحِيدٗا
Tharnee waman khalaqtu waheedanLeave Me with the one I created alone
- 12Verse 12
وَجَعَلۡتُ لَهُۥ مَالٗا مَّمۡدُودٗا
WajaAAaltu lahu malan mamdoodanAnd to whom I granted extensive wealth
- 13Verse 13
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودٗا
Wabaneena shuhoodanAnd children present [with him]
- 14Verse 14
وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمۡهِيدٗا
Wamahhadtu lahu tamheedanAnd spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]
- 15Verse 15
ثُمَّ يَطۡمَعُ أَنۡ أَزِيدَ
Thumma yatmaAAu an azeedaThen he desires that I should add more
- 16Verse 16
كَلَّآۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِأٓيَٰتِنَا عَنِيدٗا
Kalla innahu kana liayatina AAaneedanNo! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate
- 17Verse 17
سَأُرۡهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
Saorhiquhu saAAoodanI will cover him with arduous torment
- 18Verse 18
إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
Innahu fakkara waqaddaraIndeed, he thought and deliberated
- 19Verse 19
فَقُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ
Faqutila kayfa qaddaraSo may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated
- 20Verse 20
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ
Thumma qutila kayfa qaddaraThen may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated
- 21Verse 21
ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
Thumma natharaThen he considered [again]
- 22Verse 22
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
Thumma AAabasa wabasaraThen he frowned and scowled
- 23Verse 23
ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرَ
Thumma adbara waistakbaraThen he turned back and was arrogant
- 24Verse 24
فَقَالَ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرٞ يُؤۡثَرُ
Faqala in hatha illa sihrun yutharuAnd said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]
- 25Verse 25
إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوۡلُ ٱلۡبَشَرِ
In hatha illa qawlu albashariThis is not but the word of a human being
- 26Verse 26
سَأُصۡلِيهِ سَقَرَ
Saosleehi saqaraI will drive him into Saqar
- 27Verse 27
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
Wama adraka ma saqaruAnd what can make you know what is Saqar
- 28Verse 28
لَا تُبۡقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ
La tubqee wala tatharuIt lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned]
- 29Verse 29
لَوَّاحَةٞ لِّلۡبَشَرِ
Lawwahatun lilbashariBlackening the skins
- 30Verse 30
عَلَيۡهَا تِسۡعَةَ عَشَرَ
AAalayha tisAAata AAasharaOver it are nineteen [angels]
- 31Verse 31
وَمَا جَعَلۡنَآ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةٗۖ وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا عِدَّتَهُمۡ إِلَّا فِتۡنَةٗ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لِيَسۡتَيۡقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَيَزۡدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِيمَٰنٗا وَلَا يَرۡتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٞ وَٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلٗاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهۡدِي مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَمَا يَعۡلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡبَشَرِ
Wama jaAAalna ashaba alnnari illa malaikatan wama jaAAalna AAiddatahum illa fitnatan lillatheena kafaroo liyastayqina allatheena ootoo alkitaba wayazdada allatheena amanoo eemanan wala yartaba allatheena ootoo alkitaba waalmuminoona waliyaqoola allatheena fee quloobihim maradun waalkafiroona matha arada Allahu bihatha mathalan kathalika yudillu Allahu man yashao wayahdee man yashao wama yaAAlamu junooda rabbika illa huwa wama hiya illa thikra lilbashariAnd We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity
- 32Verse 32
كَلَّا وَٱلۡقَمَرِ
Kalla waalqamariNo! By the moon
- 33Verse 33
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذۡ أَدۡبَرَ
Waallayli ith adbaraAnd [by] the night when it departs
- 34Verse 34
وَٱلصُّبۡحِ إِذَآ أَسۡفَرَ
Waalssubhi itha asfaraAnd [by] the morning when it brightens
- 35Verse 35
إِنَّهَا لَإِحۡدَى ٱلۡكُبَرِ
Innaha laihda alkubariIndeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions]
- 36Verse 36
نَذِيرٗا لِّلۡبَشَرِ
Natheeran lilbashariAs a warning to humanity
- 37Verse 37
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمۡ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوۡ يَتَأَخَّرَ
Liman shaa minkum an yataqaddama aw yataakhkharaTo whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind
- 38Verse 38
كُلُّ نَفۡسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ رَهِينَةٌ
Kullu nafsin bima kasabat raheenatunEvery soul, for what it has earned, will be retained
- 39Verse 39
إِلَّآ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
Illa ashaba alyameeniExcept the companions of the right
- 40Verse 40
فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
Fee jannatin yatasaaloona[Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other
- 41Verse 41
عَنِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ
AAani almujrimeenaAbout the criminals
- 42Verse 42
مَا سَلَكَكُمۡ فِي سَقَرَ
Ma salakakum fee saqara[And asking them], "What put you into Saqar
- 43Verse 43
قَالُواْ لَمۡ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُصَلِّينَ
Qaloo lam naku mina almusalleenaThey will say, "We were not of those who prayed
- 44Verse 44
وَلَمۡ نَكُ نُطۡعِمُ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينَ
Walam naku nutAAimu almiskeenaNor did we used to feed the poor
- 45Verse 45
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلۡخَآئِضِينَ
Wakunna nakhoodu maAAa alkhaideenaAnd we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it]
- 46Verse 46
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ
Wakunna nukaththibu biyawmi alddeeniAnd we used to deny the Day of Recompense
- 47Verse 47
حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلۡيَقِينُ
Hatta atana alyaqeenuUntil there came to us the certainty
- 48Verse 48
فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمۡ شَفَٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ
Fama tanfaAAuhum shafaAAatu alshshafiAAeenaSo there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors
- 49Verse 49
فَمَا لَهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلتَّذۡكِرَةِ مُعۡرِضِينَ
Fama lahum AAani alttathkirati muAArideenaThen what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away
- 50Verse 50
كَأَنَّهُمۡ حُمُرٞ مُّسۡتَنفِرَةٞ
Kaannahum humurun mustanfiratunAs if they were alarmed donkeys
- 51Verse 51
فَرَّتۡ مِن قَسۡوَرَةِۭ
Farrat min qaswaratinFleeing from a lion
- 52Verse 52
بَلۡ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ أَن يُؤۡتَىٰ صُحُفٗا مُّنَشَّرَةٗ
Bal yureedu kullu imriin minhum an yuta suhufan munashsharatanRather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about
- 53Verse 53
كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ
Kalla bal la yakhafoona alakhirataNo! But they do not fear the Hereafter
- 54Verse 54
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذۡكِرَةٞ
Kalla innahu tathkiratunNo! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder
- 55Verse 55
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
Faman shaa thakarahuThen whoever wills will remember it
- 56Verse 56
وَمَا يَذۡكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُۚ هُوَ أَهۡلُ ٱلتَّقۡوَىٰ وَأَهۡلُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِ
Wama yathkuroona illa an yashaa Allahu huwa ahlu alttaqwa waahlu almaghfiratiAnd they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness
