ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ
Iqra biismi rabbika allathee khalaqaRecite in the name of your Lord who created
- 2Verse 2
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ
Khalaqa alinsana min AAalaqinCreated man from a clinging substance
- 3Verse 3
ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ
Iqra warabbuka alakramuRecite, and your Lord is the most Generous
- 4Verse 4
ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ
Allathee AAallama bialqalamiWho taught by the pen
- 5Verse 5
عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ
AAallama alinsana ma lam yaAAlamTaught man that which he knew not
- 6Verse 6
كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطۡغَىٰٓ
Kalla inna alinsana layatghaNo! [But] indeed, man transgresses
- 7Verse 7
أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰٓ
An raahu istaghnaBecause he sees himself self-sufficient
- 8Verse 8
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰٓ
Inna ila rabbika alrrujAAaIndeed, to your Lord is the return
- 9Verse 9
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يَنۡهَىٰ
Araayta allathee yanhaHave you seen the one who forbids
- 10Verse 10
عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ
AAabdan itha sallaA servant when he prays
- 11Verse 11
أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ
Araayta in kana AAala alhudaHave you seen if he is upon guidance
- 12Verse 12
أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰٓ
Aw amara bialttaqwaOr enjoins righteousness
- 13Verse 13
أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
Araayta in kaththaba watawallaHave you seen if he denies and turns away
- 14Verse 14
أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
Alam yaAAlam bianna Allaha yaraDoes he not know that Allah sees
- 15Verse 15
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمۡ يَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ
Kalla lain lam yantahi lanasfaAAan bialnnasiyatiNo! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock
- 16Verse 16
نَاصِيَةٖ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٖ
Nasiyatin kathibatin khatiatinA lying, sinning forelock
- 17Verse 17
فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهُۥ
FalyadAAu nadiyahuThen let him call his associates
- 18Verse 18
سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ
SanadAAu alzzabaniyataWe will call the angels of Hell
- 19Verse 19
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَٱسۡجُدۡۤ وَٱقۡتَرِب۩
Kalla la tutiAAhu waosjud waiqtaribNo! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]
