  1. 1Verse 1

    ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ

    Iqra biismi rabbika allathee khalaqa

    Recite in the name of your Lord who created

  2. 2Verse 2

    خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ

    Khalaqa alinsana min AAalaqin

    Created man from a clinging substance

  3. 3Verse 3

    ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ

    Iqra warabbuka alakramu

    Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous

  4. 4Verse 4

    ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ

    Allathee AAallama bialqalami

    Who taught by the pen

  5. 5Verse 5

    عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ

    AAallama alinsana ma lam yaAAlam

    Taught man that which he knew not

  6. 6Verse 6

    كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطۡغَىٰٓ

    Kalla inna alinsana layatgha

    No! [But] indeed, man transgresses

  7. 7Verse 7

    أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰٓ

    An raahu istaghna

    Because he sees himself self-sufficient

  8. 8Verse 8

    إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰٓ

    Inna ila rabbika alrrujAAa

    Indeed, to your Lord is the return

  9. 9Verse 9

    أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يَنۡهَىٰ

    Araayta allathee yanha

    Have you seen the one who forbids

  10. 10Verse 10

    عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ

    AAabdan itha salla

    A servant when he prays

  11. 11Verse 11

    أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ

    Araayta in kana AAala alhuda

    Have you seen if he is upon guidance

  12. 12Verse 12

    أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰٓ

    Aw amara bialttaqwa

    Or enjoins righteousness

  13. 13Verse 13

    أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ

    Araayta in kaththaba watawalla

    Have you seen if he denies and turns away

  14. 14Verse 14

    أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ

    Alam yaAAlam bianna Allaha yara

    Does he not know that Allah sees

  15. 15Verse 15

    كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمۡ يَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ

    Kalla lain lam yantahi lanasfaAAan bialnnasiyati

    No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock

  16. 16Verse 16

    نَاصِيَةٖ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٖ

    Nasiyatin kathibatin khatiatin

    A lying, sinning forelock

  17. 17Verse 17

    فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهُۥ

    FalyadAAu nadiyahu

    Then let him call his associates

  18. 18Verse 18

    سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ

    SanadAAu alzzabaniyata

    We will call the angels of Hell

  19. 19Verse 19

    كَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَٱسۡجُدۡۤ وَٱقۡتَرِب۩

    Kalla la tutiAAhu waosjud waiqtarib

    No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]
