لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ
La oqsimu bihatha albaladiI swear by this city, Makkah
- 2Verse 2
وَأَنتَ حِلُّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ
Waanta hillun bihatha albaladiAnd you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city
- 3Verse 3
وَوَالِدٖ وَمَا وَلَدَ
Wawalidin wama waladaAnd [by] the father and that which was born [of him]
- 4Verse 4
لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ فِي كَبَدٍ
Laqad khalaqna alinsana fee kabadinWe have certainly created man into hardship
- 5Verse 5
أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ أَحَدٞ
Ayahsabu an lan yaqdira AAalayhi ahadunDoes he think that never will anyone overcome him
- 6Verse 6
يَقُولُ أَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالٗا لُّبَدًا
Yaqoolu ahlaktu malan lubadanHe says, "I have spent wealth in abundance
- 7Verse 7
أَيَحۡسَبُ أَن لَّمۡ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ
Ayahsabu an lam yarahu ahadunDoes he think that no one has seen him
- 8Verse 8
أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ عَيۡنَيۡنِ
Alam najAAal lahu AAaynayniHave We not made for him two eyes
- 9Verse 9
وَلِسَانٗا وَشَفَتَيۡنِ
Walisanan washafatayniAnd a tongue and two lips
- 10Verse 10
وَهَدَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلنَّجۡدَيۡنِ
Wahadaynahu alnnajdayniAnd have shown him the two ways
- 11Verse 11
فَلَا ٱقۡتَحَمَ ٱلۡعَقَبَةَ
Fala iqtahama alAAaqabataBut he has not broken through the difficult pass
- 12Verse 12
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡعَقَبَةُ
Wama adraka ma alAAaqabatuAnd what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass
- 13Verse 13
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
Fakku raqabatinIt is the freeing of a slave
- 14Verse 14
أَوۡ إِطۡعَٰمٞ فِي يَوۡمٖ ذِي مَسۡغَبَةٖ
Aw itAAamun fee yawmin thee masghabatinOr feeding on a day of severe hunger
- 15Verse 15
يَتِيمٗا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍ
Yateeman tha maqrabatinAn orphan of near relationship
- 16Verse 16
أَوۡ مِسۡكِينٗا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةٖ
Aw miskeenan tha matrabatinOr a needy person in misery
- 17Verse 17
ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡمَرۡحَمَةِ
Thumma kana mina allatheena amanoo watawasaw bialssabri watawasaw bialmarhamatiAnd then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion
- 18Verse 18
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ
Olaika ashabu almaymanatiThose are the companions of the right
- 19Verse 19
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا هُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ
Waallatheena kafaroo biayatina hum ashabu almashamatiBut they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left

عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَارٞ مُّؤۡصَدَةُۢ
AAalayhim narun musadatunOver them will be fire closed in
