- 1Verse 1
وَٱلنَّجۡمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
Waalnnajmi itha hawaBy the star when it descends
- 2Verse 2
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
Ma dalla sahibukum wama ghawaYour companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred
- 3Verse 3
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰٓ
Wama yantiqu AAani alhawaNor does he speak from [his own] inclination
- 4Verse 4
إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحۡيٞ يُوحَىٰ
In huwa illa wahyun yoohaIt is not but a revelation revealed
- 5Verse 5
عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلۡقُوَىٰ
AAallamahu shadeedu alquwaTaught to him by one intense in strength
- 6Verse 6
ذُو مِرَّةٖ فَٱسۡتَوَىٰ
Thoo mirratin faistawaOne of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form
- 7Verse 7
وَهُوَ بِٱلۡأُفُقِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ
Wahuwa bialofuqi alaAAlaWhile he was in the higher [part of the] horizon
- 8Verse 8
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
Thumma dana fatadallaThen he approached and descended
- 9Verse 9
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوۡسَيۡنِ أَوۡ أَدۡنَىٰ
Fakana qaba qawsayni aw adnaAnd was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer
- 10Verse 10
فَأَوۡحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبۡدِهِۦ مَآ أَوۡحَىٰ
Faawha ila AAabdihi ma awhaAnd he revealed to His Servant what he revealed
- 11Verse 11
مَا كَذَبَ ٱلۡفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ
Ma kathaba alfuadu ma raaThe heart did not lie [about] what it saw
- 12Verse 12
أَفَتُمَٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
Afatumaroonahu AAala ma yaraSo will you dispute with him over what he saw
- 13Verse 13
وَلَقَدۡ رَءَاهُ نَزۡلَةً أُخۡرَىٰ
Walaqad raahu nazlatan okhraAnd he certainly saw him in another descent
- 14Verse 14
عِندَ سِدۡرَةِ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ
AAinda sidrati almuntahaAt the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary
- 15Verse 15
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰٓ
AAindaha jannatu almawaNear it is the Garden of Refuge
- 16Verse 16
إِذۡ يَغۡشَى ٱلسِّدۡرَةَ مَا يَغۡشَىٰ
Ith yaghsha alssidrata ma yaghshaWhen there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]
- 17Verse 17
مَا زَاغَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ
Ma zagha albasaru wama taghaThe sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]
- 18Verse 18
لَقَدۡ رَأَىٰ مِنۡ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰٓ
Laqad raa min ayati rabbihi alkubraHe certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord
- 19Verse 19
أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلۡعُزَّىٰ
Afaraaytumu allata waalAAuzzaSo have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza
- 20Verse 20
وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰٓ
Wamanata alththalithata alokhraAnd Manat, the third - the other one
- 21Verse 21
أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ
Alakumu alththakaru walahu alonthaIs the male for you and for Him the female
- 22Verse 22
تِلۡكَ إِذٗا قِسۡمَةٞ ضِيزَىٰٓ
Tilka ithan qismatun deezaThat, then, is an unjust division
- 23Verse 23
إِنۡ هِيَ إِلَّآ أَسۡمَآءٞ سَمَّيۡتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَٰنٍۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهۡوَى ٱلۡأَنفُسُۖ وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ
In hiya illa asmaon sammaytumooha antum waabaokum ma anzala Allahu biha min sultanin in yattabiAAoona illa alththanna wama tahwa alanfusu walaqad jaahum min rabbihimu alhudaThey are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance
- 24Verse 24
أَمۡ لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
Am lilinsani ma tamannaOr is there for man whatever he wishes
- 25Verse 25
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةُ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ
Falillahi alakhiratu waaloolaRather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]
- 26Verse 26
۞وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكٖ فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغۡنِي شَفَٰعَتُهُمۡ شَيۡـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ أَن يَأۡذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرۡضَىٰٓ
Wakam min malakin fee alssamawati la tughnee shafaAAatuhum shayan illa min baAAdi an yathana Allahu liman yashao wayardaAnd how many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession will not avail at all except [only] after Allah has permitted [it] to whom He wills and approves
- 27Verse 27
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ تَسۡمِيَةَ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ
Inna allatheena la yuminoona bialakhirati layusammoona almalaikata tasmiyata alonthaIndeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels female names
- 28Verse 28
وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغۡنِي مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّ شَيۡـٔٗا
Wama lahum bihi min AAilmin in yattabiAAoona illa alththanna wainna alththanna la yughnee mina alhaqqi shayanAnd they have thereof no knowledge. They follow not except assumption, and indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all
- 29Verse 29
فَأَعۡرِضۡ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَلَمۡ يُرِدۡ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا
FaaAArid AAan man tawalla AAan thikrina walam yurid illa alhayata alddunyaSo turn away from whoever turns his back on Our message and desires not except the worldly life
- 30Verse 30
ذَٰلِكَ مَبۡلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ
Thalika mablaghuhum mina alAAilmi inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dalla AAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bimani ihtadaThat is their sum of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided
- 31Verse 31
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ لِيَجۡزِيَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔواْ بِمَا عَمِلُواْ وَيَجۡزِيَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحۡسَنُواْ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَى
Walillahi ma fee alssamawati wama fee alardi liyajziya allatheena asaoo bima AAamiloo wayajziya allatheena ahsanoo bialhusnaAnd to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth - that He may recompense those who do evil with [the penalty of] what they have done and recompense those who do good with the best [reward]
- 32Verse 32
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓئِرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِۚ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِكُمۡ إِذۡ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِذۡ أَنتُمۡ أَجِنَّةٞ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمۡۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓاْ أَنفُسَكُمۡۖ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ
Allatheena yajtaniboona kabaira alithmi waalfawahisha illa allamama inna rabbaka wasiAAu almaghfirati huwa aAAlamu bikum ith anshaakum mina alardi waith antum ajinnatun fee butooni ommahatikum fala tuzakkoo anfusakum huwa aAAlamu bimani ittaqaThose who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you when He produced you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers. So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him
- 33Verse 33
أَفَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي تَوَلَّىٰ
Afaraayta allathee tawallaHave you seen the one who turned away
- 34Verse 34
وَأَعۡطَىٰ قَلِيلٗا وَأَكۡدَىٰٓ
WaaAAta qaleelan waakdaAnd gave a little and [then] refrained
- 35Verse 35
أَعِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ
aAAindahu AAilmu alghaybi fahuwa yaraDoes he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees
- 36Verse 36
أَمۡ لَمۡ يُنَبَّأۡ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ
Am lam yunabba bima fee suhufi moosaOr has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses
- 37Verse 37
وَإِبۡرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِي وَفَّىٰٓ
Waibraheema allathee waffaAnd [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations]
- 38Verse 38
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٞ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰ
Alla taziru waziratun wizra okhraThat no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another
- 39Verse 39
وَأَن لَّيۡسَ لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
Waan laysa lilinsani illa ma saAAaAnd that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives
- 40Verse 40
وَأَنَّ سَعۡيَهُۥ سَوۡفَ يُرَىٰ
Waanna saAAyahu sawfa yuraAnd that his effort is going to be seen
- 41Verse 41
ثُمَّ يُجۡزَىٰهُ ٱلۡجَزَآءَ ٱلۡأَوۡفَىٰ
Thumma yujzahu aljazaa alawfaThen he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense
- 42Verse 42
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ
Waanna ila rabbika almuntahaAnd that to your Lord is the finality
- 43Verse 43
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضۡحَكَ وَأَبۡكَىٰ
Waannahu huwa adhaka waabkaAnd that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep
- 44Verse 44
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحۡيَا
Waannahu huwa amata waahyaAnd that it is He who causes death and gives life
- 45Verse 45
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوۡجَيۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰ
Waannahu khalaqa alzzawjayni alththakara waalonthaAnd that He creates the two mates - the male and female
- 46Verse 46
مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ إِذَا تُمۡنَىٰ
Min nutfatin itha tumnaFrom a sperm-drop when it is emitted
- 47Verse 47
وَأَنَّ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰ
Waanna AAalayhi alnnashata alokhraAnd that [incumbent] upon Him is the next creation
- 48Verse 48
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغۡنَىٰ وَأَقۡنَىٰ
Waannahu huwa aghna waaqnaAnd that it is He who enriches and suffices
- 49Verse 49
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعۡرَىٰ
Waannahu huwa rabbu alshshiAAraAnd that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius
- 50Verse 50
وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهۡلَكَ عَادًا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ
Waannahu ahlaka AAadan aloolaAnd that He destroyed the first [people of] 'Aad
- 51Verse 51
وَثَمُودَاْ فَمَآ أَبۡقَىٰ
Wathamooda fama abqaAnd Thamud - and He did not spare [them]
- 52Verse 52
وَقَوۡمَ نُوحٖ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ هُمۡ أَظۡلَمَ وَأَطۡغَىٰ
Waqawma noohin min qablu innahum kanoo hum athlama waatghaAnd the people of Noah before. Indeed, it was they who were [even] more unjust and oppressing
- 53Verse 53
وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَةَ أَهۡوَىٰ
Waalmutafikata ahwaAnd the overturned towns He hurled down
- 54Verse 54
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ
Faghashshaha ma ghashshaAnd covered them by that which He covered
- 55Verse 55
فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ
Fabiayyi alai rabbika tatamaraThen which of the favors of your Lord do you doubt
- 56Verse 56
هَٰذَا نَذِيرٞ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰٓ
Hatha natheerun mina alnnuthuri aloolaThis [Prophet] is a warner like the former warners
- 57Verse 57
أَزِفَتِ ٱلۡأٓزِفَةُ
Azifati alazifatuThe Approaching Day has approached
- 58Verse 58
لَيۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ
Laysa laha min dooni Allahi kashifatunOf it, [from those] besides Allah, there is no remover
- 59Verse 59
أَفَمِنۡ هَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ تَعۡجَبُونَ
Afamin hatha alhadeethi taAAjaboonaThen at this statement do you wonder
- 60Verse 60
وَتَضۡحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبۡكُونَ
Watadhakoona wala tabkoonaAnd you laugh and do not weep
- 61Verse 61
وَأَنتُمۡ سَٰمِدُونَ
Waantum samidoonaWhile you are proudly sporting
- 62Verse 62
فَٱسۡجُدُواْۤ لِلَّهِۤ وَٱعۡبُدُواْ۩
Faosjudoo lillahi waoAAbudooSo prostrate to Allah and worship [Him]
